Delhi. In view of the international market conditions, the government has decided to increase the export duty on the export of diesel and aviation fuel (ATF). According to an official notification issued by the Finance Ministry late on Monday night, these new rates become effective from June 16, 2026.

New rates of excise duty on fuel exports

Under the revised rates, tax on both diesel and aviation fuel has been increased, while on petrol it has been kept the same:

Diesel

Excise duty on export of diesel has been increased by 50 paise per liter. After this, now the duty has increased from Rs 13.5 to Rs 14 per liter.

aircraft fuel (atf)

The maximum increase of Rs 3 per liter has been made on the export of aviation fuel. Now exporters will have to pay excise duty of Rs 12.5 per liter instead of Rs 9.5.

Petrol

There has been no change in the excise duty on export of petrol, it has been kept constant at Rs 1.50 per liter.

Changes compared to previous revision

Earlier, the government had changed these rates on June 01. At that time, giving relief at the global level, a cut of Rs 1.50 was made on exported petrol, Rs 3 on diesel and Rs 6.50 on jet fuel. However, after the recent review the tax has been increased again.

What will be the impact on the general public and neighboring countries?

The government has made it clear in the notification that this increase will not affect the domestic market or certain friendly countries:

No impact on domestic sales

These increased rates of excise duty will be applicable only on exports. This will not have any impact on sales in the domestic market, due to which there is no possibility of increase in prices at the local level.

relief to neighboring countries

These new increased rates will not be applicable on fuel exports by public sector oil marketing companies to India’s neighboring countries – Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. They will continue to get the same discounts as before.
